Protests in KL

Some updates on the news to make my blog less boring. Anyway, there have been protests in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The peaceful-rally-turned-violent-protest was named Bersih 3.0 and started on 28 April 2012. (Bersih means clean in Malay.) Apparently, the protestors are fed up with the corrupted elections in Malaysia and want a “cleaner” elections this year.

The last protest on corruptions happened last July, namely Bersih 2.0. At that time, the police used tear gas, water cannons and baton charges to fight off protestors. This time, the protests were even more massive with about 200,000 participants.

My view: I think I should be grateful that I live in Singapore where the government is very “clean”. From the happenings in a country just next to us, I realised we should not take for granted the peaceful life we have here. I hope that Singapore’s government will maintain this low corruption rate in the future.
