WHY THE HISTORY ASSIGNMENT SO HARD LAH SERIOUSLY??
Typical Singlish yay. Come to think of it, Singaporeans are so lazy with words LOL.
So many acronyms. Every expressway, the universities, most schools, every government board, every department in the SPF etc etc. LOL just imagine getting onto a taxi and saying “Excuse me Uncle. I would like to go to the Overseas-Chinese Banking Corporation bank at xxxx address beside the National University of Singapore. Please go by the Pan-Island Expressway then go onto Ayer Rajah Expressway. After that I would like to go to the Immigrations and Checkpoints Authority……Thank you so much!” (i made this up so don’t know whether the directions are correct) The uncle will probably look at you and think that you are
1. A foreigner
2. Still a foreigner
3. You are crazy
Well that is when you can actually say “Uncle I want to go to the OCBC bank beside NUS. Go by PIE and exit by AYE. After that please go to ICA. Thanks horh”. Acronyms are like part of our culture probably. Every home-grown Singaporean would know common acronyms like banks POSB, DBS, UOB, OCBC, government boards/ministries like MOE (dreaded student acronym), HDB (HDB flats what), MINDEF (seriously pronounced min-deaf, every male Singaporean above 18 should know), PUB, NEA, then there’s ERP, GST (oh the dreaded money suckers)… Etc. Even famous schools like RGS, RI, ACS(I) most people who are not students know them. In fact most of the time, we all know the acronyms better than what it actually stands for.
In NP we are lazy with words too :DD most words we use have few syllabuses. Like act, prep-u, even batches became just the number and “ma’am” (if applicable lol) Most events have their own acronyms too 😀 like NPAP, NPDP, IUG, AGD, AGM, URD, UGBC, ATC 😦 and POP!! teams like NYCT, NYQT, NYST 😀 badges like CSSP, PYA, NYAA, SPF-NPCC, UBC, CD, CP, PK. Oh yeah and NCOs, an acronym too.
Yippee acronyms and short forms FTW!
