Korean Dramas
Hahahaha I wanted to put this K-drama crap on my e-portfolio but decided I would bore everyone out… So here goes.
I particularly like watching Korean Dramas and I find that I have learnt a lot from them. I will list some of them here:
The first korean dramas that I ever watched and possibly the most famous K-Drama of all time is Dae Jang Geum, also known as Jewel In the Palace. It was released quite a long time ago, in 2003, and is a historical drama about a young girl who overcomes all odds in the palace, eventually being the first Female to be the King’s personal physican. I find this drama very inspiring and through this, I have learnt a lot about Korean culture. It still remains popular 10 years after its release and has been voice-overed into many different languages.
Also by the same director is the drama Dong Yi, released in 2010, which I really like. It is also a historical drama about a young girl in a palace. However, Dong Yi has a fairly different plot from Dae Jang Geum, despite the protagonists both being young girls coming from poor backgrounds. Both dramas hook viewers on from the first episode to the last with its unexpected twists in the plot and suspense.
One of the dramas I have watched many times is Boys Over Flowers, released in 2009. This drama was really popular back then and even now, there are people still watching it. Not only are the guys in the drama the dream of many girls, the actors who acted as them are extremely good-looking too! I have watched in at least 4 times.
Another drama that I have watched is Family Honour. It has a deep theme about what family means and teaches us about family values. It has a very touching storyline too! I would really like to rewatch it in detail again but it isn’t available online.
Korean Dramas have very creative plots and one of the most innovative ones I have watched would be “Queen In Hyun’s Man”. It is about this Joseon Dynasty official who travels to the modern world and meets a girl he loves and what happens next. It talks about changing history and is a very interesting drama to watch. The soundtrack has very well-written music too.
Recently, I have been watching a few dramas and I have just finished Dream High. As the title suggests, it talks about dreams and is very inspiring. I especially like the theme song which has a very catchy and light-hearted tune. However, Dream High does get a little boring in some parts of the final episodes (even though it is only 16 episodes) but all in all, it is still quite a nice drama. My favourite element of this drama is actually the music. The soundtracks are sung by the actors and actresses themselves, many of whom are also singers.
Then another one would be King 2 Hearts, which talks about the relations between North and South Korea and also a romance between the princess and an officer, which turns out really sad. I teared up when the officer died… I think the romance here is really good, because unlike many dramas where the lovers get together after just a few episodes, the lead male and females in this drama went through ups and downs and only managed to get together in the last few minutes of the drama. But I really hated the antagonist, the president of Club M who tried all dirty means and ways to harm the relations between N and S Korea. I could not even stand his face so I actually fast-forwarded the scenes showing him. I think it is one of the best 20 episode dramas I have watched.
I would rank the dramas mentioned above as such:
1) Dae Jang Geum
2) Dong Yi
3) Family Honour
4) Queen In Hyun’s Man
5) King 2 Hearts
6) Boys Over Flowers
7) Dream High
I will continue watching different Korean Dramas and write reviews about them I guess….
