Sometime ago, I suddenly had a brainwave after watching God of Study. How about I become a teacher when I grow up? When I told my mum, she immediately agreed because she says it’s much safer than me being a cop (a dream which I kind of gave up). She also said people like us, all we want to do is to help people and not earn loads of money so she totally approves of this dream. I’m still considering this though hahaha.
Teachers (not necessarily just referring to those with that as an occupation) , or mentors specifically have been a very important part of my life. I’ve had quite a few teachers who have inspired me and taught me so much throughout my years of education, including pre-school. My very first teachers were of course my family members. My mum who taught me how to read and write, my dad who taught me Math, my brother who taught me how to play! Then in preschool there was a school bus uncle who taught me old songs every day when I sat his bus to kindergarten. He taught me many values too.
There were many others in primary school such as my P2 teacher Mrs Erat as well as my P5 and P6 teacher Mr Low who was an extremely good English and Science teacher. The reason why I managed to do well in PSLE was largely thanks to him.
Come secondary school, there are also teachers who have taught me a lot. For example my co-form teacher for two years. I remember whenever we had activities, she always gave a very long debrief session which annoyed me at times but of course when I was forced to listen to her, I did. In NP, the ultimate teachers were ma’ams, specifically our NCOs, who taught us what it means to be a sec one cadet and instilled in us the passion for NP. The many squad talks we had with them, the acts we spent with them teaching us, I really miss them. Of course, there were also the various TOs who have guided us throughout every competition, every event, every act.
I am truly thankful to all these teachers I have had. I remember them not just because they taught my academic work well, they were the ones who shaped my character and inspired me to be a better person. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
